The crf 250 is an awesome bike. You should probable start of on trails because those are the best to learn on. l have seen people that started on fields and would get used to it and then go to trails and get scared even though they are brave people. You defiantly do not want to go to the track first thing because then you will try jumping and that kind of stuff and you will hurt yourself. Get used to trails and get used to your bike and how to maintain it.

l think l said this before.Practice corners.Corners will be ur best friend.Races r won in corners.Anyone can go fast in a straight line.Jumping can be mastered as u go..Start with a small edge of a hill..You can take a shovel & tune ur jump in..But if u can find the side of a bank to make a burm for ur corner..practice it both ways.right & then left.Practice coming in as fast as u can.breaking later & later before u hit ur corner with the gas on.Remember.while u r still up-right before u start to lay over before the corner.use ur breaks.70% front 30% back break. You need to become faster than everyone in corners..My son is well known for his corners.he makes most of his passes there.comes in hot, breaks late, throttle on..He has a wicked block pass..

If u intend to race mx then find a few local tracks in ur area & start doing practice days. Being able to stay on a bike & being able to race one with 39 others on the track all also trying to win is a lot different. You need practice having another bike sitting on ur back wheel & if u have ever watched mx races, u need to know what to do in that first corner when all those bikes come together. It is a learning process that takes time to master, which is why most riders who end up going pro have begun to ride from the age of 4. By the time they r ur age they have spent so much time on a bike that they feel more at home on one than anywhere else.
See if u can find a local coach who takes lessons. Most tracks that run races have someone or know someone who coaches & can help u with the basics. You also need to learn about how to set ur own bike up as a large part of being sucessful racing is the set up of the bike. If the bike is not set up for ur own weight & for racing in particular to the conditions on the track u wont do any good against the better riders as they change their bike set up, tyres ect. to suit whatever the conditions are.
And as far as not worrying about broken bones, well perhaps u should as nearly all the riders l know including the pros all have a fear of broken bones as it means time off their bikes & the inevitable slow comeback from injury. It also means sitting back & watching the others race while they r sidelined.
If u do have a paddock to ride in of ur own then mark out a bit of a track & ride that as well working on corners which will form on their own with riding as corners r extremely important.
But mostly get a bike & ride for fun as if its not for fun then u may as well not ride. There r sections for all ablility in racing.

Yeah u have a good plan layed out

Start out on a HOnda crf250r its the same bike that l currently own & mate its not that hard to get used to considering youve ridin 20+ times

Trail riding & paddock riding r great ways to practise but really u need to know ur bike inside out & ur limits, dont go pushing yourself to hard

But riding trails is the best way to learn make sure u go out with sombody good & chase them its a great way to get better because u learn balance, throttle control & so much more

Best of luck mate
