I've ridden trails for almost 5 years and i've gotten pretty good, l have the bike and all the gear, but my parents wo not even let me go ride at a track. My dad has heard stories about people getting seriously hurt while racing, but i'm just going to be riding recreationally and he still seems to be convinced that i'm going to break my neck or someone else is going to run me over. l do not have a neck brace but he says l can not ride on a track without one but then he also says that l need to buy it and l do not have 400 bucks laying around for a leatt brace. no matter what l tell him he still wo not change his mind, what do it do.
I am 16 and l mow lawns and do a little video freelance work but with that money i'm saving up for a new video camera, but the main thing i'm trying to figure out is even if l do get the neck brace, what then, he is still scared i'm gonna get hurt bad even if l do not race.

l think the AVS neck brace is like $175 bucks..Is there a way to get your Dad to take you to a practice at the track??Let him see how fun it is??

Its the best Father Son deal going..bar none

Without having ur parents on-board riding mx is pretty much impossible as u really need to have someone acting as pit crew. The country l am in at most race events u also have to have someone over the age of 16 to act as corner marshall & if u do not provide a person then u do not get points.
l suggest that u try & make the money to buy a brace yourself & purchase it & that will show ur dad how serious u r about racing. See if u can find someone who does race that u can be pit crew to & after doing that a few times ask ur dad along to watch. Hopefully he will see how much u love the idea of racing.

But just nagging him will not make the difference as the sport is dangerous no matter what way u look at it & l doubt there is anyone serious out there who has not been run over by another rider at some stage racing. It is not a case of if u will get hurt, but when, so trying to say to ur dad that u wont get hurt is not the tactic to take. Rather point out that u will take all precautions to be safe & r quite prepared for the consequences of an accident. Point out to him that life is to be lived & not watched from the sidelines.

l would not let either of my sons race without a brace on their necks.

l agree with the first post. How old are you? Get a job and just buy the brace. Not just to let your dad let you race, but to save your body. Do not go race without it.

My friends dad used to race for a living until he screwed up on a jump, fell, and someone landed on his neck. Broke his back and he was paralyzed for the rest of his life. You do not want to end up like that.

well as we dont know ur parents we cant sort of say how u can rty & convince them how to let u race

do u have any friendfs that race well u can get ur parents to ring their parents & talk about it & try & sus it out

yeah like the othe guy before me go for the cheaper one or even a neck roll not sure it will do much ( the neck roll that is ) but still just keep asking & asking & eventually he will cave in if he is persistant then to bad mate, u may have to cross motocross off the list of things to do before u die
