l have a young friend who insists that when he grows up there is no way he can be a motocross racer AND go to college. He told me there are NO racers who have done both.Does anybody know pro-racers that also attended college? Thanks!
No, he is only in the 5th grade right now.He was telling me that he wants to race pro (yes, l understand it is a long shot) because he does not wanna go to college.l said he could probably do both and he said it is impossible. That is why l was wondering.

no not off hand. they train too much, but he could take on line classes. if he feels he can race and has people to sponsor him he can try to race there carreers are kind of short, so he could go to school after, hey any body can goto school, not every one can race it takes talent if he fulfill his dream he should try life is short and not all about money and good jobs, enjoy it while god lets us have it

No, there is not enough time to do both. But unless you are a very good racer your career will not be all that long. There will be time for college after the racing career is over. l would not worry too much about it since very few people ever make it to the pro ranks. He has about as good of a chance as hitting the lottery. If we all turned out to be what we wanted when we were kids the world would be over run with cowboys and astronauts.

the fact of the matter is that if he is considering racing pro and lookin into college he has likely missed the pro boat..tell him to race locally and go to shcool he will be much better off 10 years from now.most of the pro racers (if not all) are or were home schooled..and there are far too many kids home schooled just so they can race and in the end they cant keep up both on the track AND in the classroom. best of luck to your friend

My son intends to do just that as he is in year 11 in Australia. He is intelligent so at 15 has done a accelerated Secondary Education which means he has finished year 10 a year early. He races all over Australia & is still in the top 10% in his school. This year he has 5 year 11 classes & 1 year 12 & will be finished Secondary schooling at the end of next year & be 17. He then intends to do a uni course but not take on as many subjects so he still has time to train & race. Who knows he may make it pro & then again he may not but at this stage he has a finger in both pies with having a brain & the ability. He also has rather stupid parents who r prepared to drive through the night while he sleeps so he can race.
He raced 12 races of both supercross & arenacross last weekend & also had a practise day before it & was still up & ready for school bright & early monday morning with his trophies in hand for his wins.

So l think it is possible if the passion & the will is there. Your friend could do the same thing & do uni but do it part time & have the best of both worlds.

Travis Pastrana was attending the University of Maryland when he was a full time racer with Team Suzuki..a few years back, whether he graduated or not, l dont know...
