Hi! I am a 20yr old woman and I'd really like to get into Dirt Bike racing. I'd be grateful on any info you can offer on getting started, especially on the follow -Buying a second hand bike (I am tiny so any ideas on size/power l should go for) -Any basics l should know -How to go about getting into racing l have always been into cars/Bikes and racing (well being a spectator) and I've wanted a dirt bike since l was 14, however the parents refused for the usual reasons 'you will crash and burn alive' or the ole favourite 'You know how many ppl die a yr from that shit!'. LOL anyway any info would be great, Thanks! Height=5'3 weight=95lbs on a good day Thank you all for the information, l clearly have a lot more research/learning to do but you've all given me a few ideas of where to start. The local club idea seems like a really good start. Thanks for the links, the gsafety gear l wuld need all sounds pretty expensive. Thanks again everyone, greatso far Hi Trey, I am in the UK so, what would be the UK version of the ama? I've found quite a few clubs near me (via google) so now I've just gotta phone up and find out how to join etc Thanks

l think you should start out with a 125. a 125 is perfect for any one, and always wear a helmet lol.

well for starters picking a bike isnt the whole thing about it. first u gotts decide what u want to do. like track racing i.e jumps & all that on a circut. or trail riding which l prefer :) then thats when u need to chose a bike. theres also picking a 2 stroke of four stroke.. they both a good at everything but its personal preference that comes down to it. l ride a four stroke & frankly l reckon they r f'in sweet. they have an even power range (just as fast as any other) they r sooo much easier to ride for beginners, & in the long run a four stroke can do trails or circut they r way more versitile than a 2stroke...then picking a bike l think seeing u say ur tiny.an this is if ur going to circut race.i reccomend a Honda CRF 150.. they r a new bike out l think first out was 06 model they r a great bike fast reliable & not very big :)
well theres just some info about the bike itself add my on hotmail or somfin if u wanna talk more rynoreaperhotmail.com
peace! & good luck

Before deciding on what bike u want find out what local clubs u have in ur area & go along to one of their race days & find out what sections u would be allowed to ride in. many clubs run woman is only races so u do not have to mix it with the boys till u r ready. Find out about getting a race license by talking to the race secretary as they will have all the information u need to do that. Ask a few questions about what bikes the other ladies race so u can get an idea of what u would be competing against. A four stroke would be easier for u to manage as a first bike. Once u have an idea as to what bike will suit u & what the others ride go along to a dealer & sit on a few to get an idea of what feels right & then u can start looking for a second hand equivalent. When at the local club find out about rules of the club & ask for any reading literature u can have to read up on race rules & flag meaning. Make sure u get all the right protective gear to be as safe as possible & then once u have ur bike turn up to a few practice days as u wont want to race till u have had quite a bit of practice on the bike.

First u need to give us ur height; age does not matter.
Ok. Now for ur height u should get an 80/85cc two stroke or the Honda CRF150r. l suggest a 85/80cc two stroke because they r cheaper. l think ur too short for a full size bike; but that is ok. Smaller size engine would be better for a beginner anyway. It does not matter what brand u get as long as it is one of the main 5 (Kawasaki, Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, or KTM). You will need the basic gear to race & even more if u want to ensure ur safety. Helmets run at prices no lower than $100 & boots too. A full set of gear is going to cost u around $500. The price is well worth protecting ur health. As far as racing, l do not know anything about the UK races. l live in California, US & it might be different standards where u live. l say u should go hang out in a dealership & ask lots of questions. They probably know where the race tracks are, what would be good for you, etc. Most of the people that work there have some experience with dirt bikes, so they should be a big help. You do not have to buy a new bike if u do not want to. Like l said before u should buy a used bike (not too old) make sure it runs good, & buy a full set of gear (buy new).

first l would suggest you get all the gear for a begginer because you will propably falll of alot if you just begin to ride on a track. helmet, race jersey, race pants, gloves, boots, googles, neck brace, knee brace, kidney belt, body armour should do you, for a bike, you could go for a 85 big wheel but l dont think your that small or a crf150r or even a tt125,or you could get a 1252stroke witch would probably be better if you want to race,go to the link below for some riding tips, good look

well if ure tiny get an 85 or a 150 ( tiny being under 5'4 & weighing under 120 pounds ) if ure not that tiny u should really get a 125 to start with. u should learn the correct techniques to start with as u will end up going faster in the long run if ure doing things right even if they may be akward to begin with ie elbows up,body positioning, standing up. i dont know where u live but if u ask ur locall bike dealer they should be able to give u the names of some local races

I'd start with a 100 cc engine for starting out, if you can handle that try riding around on a nearby open field somewhere, then if you feel you've mastered well enough and want to get into racing, first register with the American Motorcyclist Association at http://ama-cycle.org then click on register, then also while you are at it, pick up a rule book on the same site and read it carefully.

given your size and need for experience. l would suggest the honda 150R you are a few inches taller than my kid who currently races this model. as for getting into MX just go to a few tracks and just hang out.this is the best way to meet the people who you will be racing with and they will be better able to help you along.. please feel free to send me a note if l can help you more.
