Hi l am a 16 yo boy wondering about the opportunity is in motocross. l have the money to get a new bike and gear and l have a lot of experience on a bike. l was just wondering if l should buy a bike to race and try and make money out of it.. please help

Dude, someone has seriously misguided you. You do not make money racing motocross, u spend money racing motocross. l have been racing since l was 10 years old, l am a 3 time state champion & nationally ranked A class racer. l have never made a profit racing even though l have pretty good sponsorships for an amateur. l spend about $10,000 a year on this habit. Even pro privateers spend money rather than making it for the most part. The only way to make money at MX is being a factory rider which happens to very, very few people & for u to start racing at ur age that is a completely impossible task. Sorry bro, but that is just the cold hard facts.

l can only agree with XYZ is answer. Both my sons have been racing nearly all their lives with the youngest an A grade rider in the country we r in. This year he is entitled to run 3 classes & the amount of money that we have spent to keep his bikes race ready not to mention the entry fees which usually run out to $120 per race meet, is just ridiculous. Believe me if our son was not completely passionate about the sport & showing incredible potential & not just in our eyes as parents with Rose coloured glasses we would have stopped ages ago. he is a sponsored rider but even that only helps so much of course unless u happen to be (as XYZ has stated) one of the lucky few who have found their way onto a factory team. Half the time those who get the breaks & end up on a team may not necessarily be the best rider but they have the best connections.
Of course u should race & do so for fun, but to get back into racing with the idea of making money, l can only say the chances of that r not all that good. Unless u have major titles under ur belt at the age u r there is not a lot of chance of u raking in the cash.

hey you are not going to be making money just all that.i take all of work and time.i you l to spend money to make money. like xyz said.not ever1 make money off of motocross.i am luck to be a factory rider.
